No big changes this year, and why mess with a winning team? But the front-end
got the same style as its bigger sisters and brothers in the PMD line, vertical stacked
headlights and deeper recessed grilles. The tailight chrome wrapped around the corners of
the car and the twin scoops were replaced with a single one on the center of the hood, but were still
non-functional. Advertising was now an important part of the GTO-hype, very youth-oriented
with smoking tires and pop tunes praising the GTO on the charts.

| Underneath the frame was
built sturdier and the rearaxle was re-inforced. A new option was the mag-wheel looking Rally
wheel. Engines were tuned, giving the 4-barrel 10 extra horses (335) and the Tri-Power had
12 more (360). Sales rose at a VERY HIGH RATE....the GTO was a huge succes! |
