Since the car sat outside for 12-13 years, and since the left rear window was down at least some of that time as it was broken, we had to completely re-do the interior. All of the black metal was wet sanded, primed and painted semi gloss black. Son #1 did all of the work. He also scraped 33 years of crud off the floor. The good news is that this car was manufactured in (Fremont CA.) and remained in Northern California its entire life, so rust wasn't a big issue. The only rust spot was a small hole about 2 inches across. We were able to patch it easily with POR water based epoxy putty. We also painted the floor and inside of the roof with POR (rust elimination) black. You can also see some silver under the petal area. We used POR silver with metal particles over the black. You can also see that we removed the steering column, and all of the wiring in the car. Since it was sitting outside, I knew that field mice as well as "unqualified owners" had probably ruined the wiring. Why go to the trouble of a frame off restoration without installing all new wiring? This shot also shows the doors still in place. We removed them last winter to strip them along with the front fenders, hood and trunk. All were stripped, both sides, painted with etching primer, followed by red water based primer. We did all of the painting too. |
